Presuming you know how to build and upload WebPages to your own blog or website: All you have to do to add adverts to your articles is copy paste their advert html codes wherever you want to place them. Using clickbank as an example, you just sign into your clickbank account, go to their HopAdd Builder page follow the onscreen instructions collect the codes and put them into your article page then upload to your site.

You are an author so you produce articles to bring traffic to your WebPages, now if you produce these articles on your own WebPages you can advertise whatever you like on your page. Obviously you cannot do this with articles that you submit to article sites, because they advertise on your articles it is one of the common rules that you cannot add your own affiliate links in your articles submitted to them.
Obviously the article submission site needs to make money and so do you as the author of any articles you have published with them, but there is no reason you cannot do both.
